Natural solutions for stress

All of us experience stress. If that stress becomes prolonged (chronic), then it can have a devastating effect on our health and wellbeing. Almost every bodily system will be detrimentally affected by chronic stress as it will cause or aggravate diseases of the digestion, skin, immune system and mental health.

Fortunately, there are some wonderful herbs and flower remedies that can promote resilience to the effects of stress and amazing essential oils that can have a calming and strengthening effect, to help relieve some of the most problematic symptoms such as sleeplessness and anxiety.

Some plants are adaptogenic, which means they help the body’s systems adapt to stress. Adaptogenic herbs can help promote resilience, protecting the body from some of the damage that stress can cause. Adaptogenic plants also regulate adrenal hormones. Why is this important? Because the adrenal glands make these hormones: Cortisol, Aldosterone, Adrenaline and Noradrenaline. Ashwagandha and Rhodiola are both renowned adaptogens, and lemon balm will help calm and soothe the digestive and nervous system.

Essential oils particularly important in the treatment of stress include Frankincense, which encourages us to breathe more deeply and Cedarwood and Vetiver, both of which are calming, strengthening and grounding.

Bach Flower Remedies particularly renowned for stress include Vervain that can help to calm feelings of strain and struggle to get something done, and White Chestnut that encourages clearer thinking, particularly helpful when our mind is going round in circles.

If you need a helping hand with either acute or chronic stress, we highly recommend the Relax Supplement and Calm Botanical Mist, also available together in the De-Stress Collection here.
